Wake up early, backpack, comfortable shoes, layered clothing and… we’re go. Our destination? The Metola tower. We park the car in Palazzi and walk up the state road for about a kilometre in the direction of Sant’Angelo in Vado. At a four-way intersection between the state road and two small white roads, we turn right and walk towards L’Aiolina lake.

From the L’Aiolina lake, we continue along the path that is a little uncertain in the wood, keeping to the right and following the track that climbs until we rejoin the unpaved road that passes through Case L’Aiolina. From here on, the spectacle is assured, as we proceed along a path characterised by gentle slopes and passing along the crest of the hill with the Metola tower as a background right in front of us. With such scenery, we will find ourselves close to the tower without even realising it.

At the end of the path, here we are on the dirt track that will allow us to reach our destination; from here to the summit the slopes become steeper, but it is only a few hundred metres and every effort will be rewarded, so let us resist the effort until we reach the birthplace of Blessed Margaret.

Before setting off on our return journey, let us enjoy a moment of well-deserved relaxation, the view of the tower and the Massa Trabaria panorama. For the return journey we can choose whether to retrace our steps or descend towards the Beata Margherita oratory using the dirt road that will soon lead us to the state road at Palazzi. If our choice falls on the second option, we can complete our excursion by closing the loop and walking a few hundred metres along the state road to return to our starting point.
