Poggio Tre Termini
What if we told you that just a stone’s throw away runs what is considered the longest hiking trail in the world? We are talking about the Sentiero Italia, a 7850 km long trail that crosses all regions of Italy in 365 stages.
Let us set off and discover a small part of this trail. Our starting point is Lago del Sole, reached by driving a few kilometres up the Bocca Trabaria pass from the village of Lamoli. Right next to the lake we find a wooden gate, after which we can begin our walk. Taking care to follow the red and white marks, we follow the signs towards Poggio Tre Termini. After an initial part in which we skirt pastures, we cross a small ditch and enter the woods. About 1 km of climbing awaits us until we reach Poggio Tre Termini and its characteristic rock.

And here we are in less than two kilometres on the Sentiero Italia: on our right, the path allows us to reach the Alpe della Luna until we reach the Viamaggio Pass; on the left, instead, the path goes towards the Bocca Trabaria pass and then continues towards Bocca Serriola. On our route, we choose the second option and set out in the direction of Bocca Trabaria. In the approximately 3 km that follow, we cross the wonderful woods of the Alpe della Luna area. Magnificent all year round, these woods acquire an extra gear during the foliage (November) and during the flowering of the undergrowth (June/July).

Once we reach the pass, without crossing the road, we turn left and enter the forest again following the direction of Fonte Abeti. In about one kilometre, we will have reached the state road again, which we will have to follow until we take the road back to Lago del Sole.
The Sentiero Italia path meets these areas again a few stages further on, crossing the Nerone, Petrano and Catria mountains, which may be the subject of future treks.
Note
As an alternative to park your car near Lago del Sole, you can also stop in a large lot immediately after the crossroads leading from the state road to the lake.
